In the Early Years, our aim is to nurture a love of learning by keeping home activities enjoyable, simple and meaningful. The following expectations help support your child’s early development and strengthen the learning they do in school.
📚 Reading – at least 3 times a week
- Please read with your child a minimum of three times each week.
- This may include reading their school reading book, sharing picture books, or talking about the story.
- Don’t worry if they aren’t reading independently yet—listening to stories and talking about pictures is just as valuable.
📖 Sharing Stories
- Enjoying stories together is an important part of early literacy.
- We encourage families to share books, rhymes, songs and storytelling in any language spoken at home.
- Please write in your child’s reading record each time you share a story.
👩🍳 Cooking and Practical Activities
- Cooking together helps build early maths, language and fine motor skills.
- Simple activities such as stirring, pouring, measuring, cutting soft foods, or helping set the table are all brilliant learning opportunities.
🧠 Talk, Talk, Talk!
- Conversation is one of the best ways to support learning.
- Talk about your day, the weather, journeys you take, or things you notice in the environment.
- Encourage your child to ask questions and share their ideas.
🎨 Creative and Play-based Activities
- Drawing, building, role play, singing, dancing and imaginative play all support key areas of development.
- Feel free to share any lovely moments from home with us—they help build a full picture of your child’s learning.
