Homework

At our school, homework plays an important role in strengthening the partnership between home and school and supporting each child’s learning journey. We believe homework should be meaningful, manageable and designed to reinforce key skills taught in the classroom.

Why Homework Matters

Homework provides opportunities for children to:

  • Consolidate learning and practise key skills such as reading, spelling and maths.
  • Develop independence, organisation and responsibility.
  • Share learning with family members, helping parents understand how their child is progressing.
  • Build confidence, especially through regular, small tasks that promote success.

We aim to ensure homework is purposeful and enhances, rather than replicates, classroom learning.

General Expectations

Across the school, children are expected to:

  • Take part in regular reading at home, with adults supporting discussion, comprehension and enjoyment.
  • Practise spellings and key number facts, including times tables, appropriate to their age and stage.
  • Complete short maths or English tasks that reinforce recent learning.

Our Approach

  • Homework will be set consistently and clearly.
  • Tasks will be age‑appropriate and designed to take a reasonable amount of time.
  • We encourage families to maintain a positive, calm homework routine.
