To help children develop strong learning habits and build the key skills needed for the rest of Key Stage 2, we ask families to support the following weekly homework expectations.
๐ Reading – at least 3 times a week
- Children should read a minimum of three times each week, ideally aloud to an adult when possible.
- This can include school reading books, library books or books from home.
- Please sign your child’s reading record each time they read.
- Regular reading supports fluency, vocabulary and comprehension.
๐ก Spellings
- Weekly spelling lists will be sent home each week.
- Children should practise these regularly using strategies such as look–cover–write–check.
- Spellings will be tested weekly in school.
๐ข Maths
- A short weekly maths task will be set to reinforce learning from class.
- Activities may include written methods, number facts, problem solving or realโlife maths (e.g., time, money, measure).
๐ธ Times Tables Rock Stars
- Children are expected to use Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS) at least once a week to build speed and confidence with multiplication facts.
- By the end of Year 4, children should know all times tables up to 12 × 12.
- Short, regular sessions (5–10 minutes) are most effective.
๐ How Families Can Help
- Try to keep homework sessions calm, short and positive.
- Encourage effort, celebrate perseverance, and make learning enjoyable.
