Adventurers

To help children develop strong learning habits and build the key skills needed for the rest of Key Stage 2, we ask families to support the following weekly homework expectations.

๐Ÿ“š Reading – at least 3 times a week

  • Children should read a minimum of three times each week, ideally aloud to an adult when possible.
  • This can include school reading books, library books or books from home.
  • Please sign your child’s reading record each time they read.
  • Regular reading supports fluency, vocabulary and comprehension.

๐Ÿ”ก Spellings

  • Weekly spelling lists will be sent home each week.
  • Children should practise these regularly using strategies such as look–cover–write–check.
  • Spellings will be tested weekly in school.

๐Ÿ”ข Maths

  • A short weekly maths task will be set to reinforce learning from class.
  • Activities may include written methods, number facts, problem solving or realโ€‘life maths (e.g., time, money, measure).

๐ŸŽธ Times Tables Rock Stars

  • Children are expected to use Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS) at least once a week to build speed and confidence with multiplication facts.
  • By the end of Year 4, children should know all times tables up to 12 × 12.
  • Short, regular sessions (5–10 minutes) are most effective.

๐ŸŒŸ How Families Can Help

  • Try to keep homework sessions calm, short and positive.
  • Encourage effort, celebrate perseverance, and make learning enjoyable.
