To support children’s learning and build strong home–school routines, we ask that families engage with the following weekly expectations. These activities are designed to reinforce the skills children learn in school and help them make steady progress.
📚 Reading – at least 3 times a week
- Children should read a minimum of three times each week.
- This may include school reading books, library books or sharing stories together.
- Please write in your child’s reading record each time they read.
- Regular reading builds confidence, fluency and understanding.
🔡 Spellings
- Weekly spelling lists will be sent home.
- Children should practise these across the week using a method that suits them (e.g., look–cover–write–check).
- Spellings will be checked in school each week.
🔢 Maths Practice
- A short maths task will be sent home each week, linked to the learning covered in class.
- Activities may involve number bonds, counting, simple calculations or practical tasks such as telling the time or using money.
- The aim is to build confidence with core number skills.
✍️ Handwriting
- Children may be given handwriting sheets to practise correct letter formation and neat presentation.
- Supporting good pencil grip and encouraging careful writing at home helps reinforce classroom learning.
- Short, regular practice is most effective.
🌟 How Families Can Help
- Keep homework sessions short, calm and positive.
- Encourage effort, celebrate progress and make learning fun.
